The art of Gangan drum (talking drum),which is a very essential member of the percussion group of musical instruments in Africa, is an heritage passed down from generation to generation among the Yoruba people of West Africa. These linage of drummers are given names having the prefix 'Ayan'. Their dexterity and play of words with the drum is evidence when handling the drums. This art has survived the test of time. The dum is used during rituals, rites of passage, weddings and sometimes funerals. It is also used as a tool of communication which has traditional undertones.
